Came here looking for info on WebDeveloper - excellent, excellent tool!

Thought I'd register to the forums. Couldn't figure out why the captcha kept saying my math was wrong.

Eventually determined I was spelling the answer instead of using a digit. DOH!

Allowing the registrant to spell out the number would be a nice touch; giving a hint that one should answer one way or the other could even be an additional level to aid in bot identification.

Figured out the answer I was looking for anyway (how to see the entire path from View Style Info). Though as this is the General forum will speak no more of that here.

BTW, is the forum custom built, or are you using some canned software? Just curious.

Thanks again for a great tool! It's a must have for anyone building or working on a site.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/gU0XNT5Bux4" height="1" width="1"/>

Web Site opening after running Firefox for the first time in Web Developer : Installation

As posted above if there is a Firefox preference set with the name 'webdeveloper.version' and the value '1.19' then the extension won't open the update notification.

You can probably find more info about preferences on the Firefox help site, for example:

How would we use a preference to stop it from checking? What would the preference file need to have? If a preference would do the trick, then we would figure something out on our end. Thanks.

Well, I can only think of two options:

1. Use a preference to stop it from checking. But this is essentially what is happening right now and because you wipe the hard drives there is nowhere for this preference to be stored.

2. Remove the functionality altogether for everyone. But this is not something I want to do as it is useful for sharing release notes to users who have just installed the extension.

So I'm sorry, but at this point I don't really see a solution on my side.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/JR8JABHTblY" height="1" width="1"/>

The extension looks for a Firefox preference called 'webdeveloper.version' that matches the current version - currently this would be '1.19' - and if they don't match then it will show the update information.

If you are wiping the hard drives then there is not much I can do since the extension has no way to know if it has been run previously or not.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/lcSU9Dz4VSI" height="1" width="1"/>

Hello all,

I work at a small non-profit and we use the Web Developer toolbar in one of our labs, and we love it. However, we also have deep freeze installed on all of those computers, which wipes the hard drive every night. When the users come back the next day and run Firefox, Web Developer thinks that it's being run for the first time, which means it opens a new tab, and then goes to this website. Ordinarily this would not have been a problem, but this happens everyday, which is getting kind of annoying for our users. This leads me to this question: Is there a way to prevent the Web Developer toolbar from going to this website after installation? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I can't really say - it's something you will have to test yourself and if it's not working talk with the person who wrote the solution you linked to about why.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/0qHKpEA9GZ0" height="1" width="1"/>

Yes, very few extensions are signed as it's an overly complicated process, but all extensions on the Mozilla Add-ons site are reviewed. It is up to you if you are comfortable with that warning or not though.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/hoe42TL-64g" height="1" width="1"/>

So then am I OK with the "Not author-verified" warning I get when I install it? Are you familiar with Firefox giving this warning?<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/ESe1v5BTERc" height="1" width="1"/>

I don't provide support for individual sites like Facebook, only for the extension itself.

However, it looks like you just need to install the User Agent Switcher extension and follow the instructions on the page you linked to.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/chrispederick/forums/posts/~4/H-qK7oIlS40" height="1" width="1"/>

I was directed to this User Agent Switcher 0.7.3 add-on specifically from a search on How do I get rid of Facebook Timeline??? I found this: http://www.fbpurity.com/disable-facebook-timeline.htm and then User Agent Switcher, but did not find results for a Facebook Timeline query here.

It ticked me off to see so many comments like: "You can't get rid of it - get used to it", and so I went off looking for a solution. The problem is I am just enough of a novice with Firefox add-ons that when installing this one and getting a "Not author verified" warning, I just wanted some more info on it.

If this add-on will fix the getting rid of Facebook Timeline issue, then I would be GLAD to make a donation here.

Thanks for any help.
